Part two of Self centeredness has many aspects

P writes: Gilbert, Thank you so much for the reply. I see that thoughts, actions, feelings, etc. simply arise. So if I am understanding correctly, the trouble starts when the mind says “that is me, I am this thing (thought, body)?” Then from there, other “things” that aren’t me are created. Does this sound correct? So the mind basically “creates” the appearances of the world by taking what is and labeling it this that or the other? When you say “be no thing, and see what happens,” do you simply mean see the mind’s limited identifications as just something else that […]

Self-centeredness has many subtle aspects

Email: “Hi Gilbert, I hope you are enjoying the weekend. If you have the time, I was curious if I could get your take on something that I recently read by Leo Hartong? “The person, the ego, is not in control; it is an object in the Awareness-You-Are. This clumsy use of language may suggest that there is a “you” that is being this awareness, so here is a rephrase: There is only This- Being/Awareness, in which everything appears including the body/mind, including possibly thoughts of volition, of doing right or wrong, and including thoughts of a body/mind that does not […]

Uncommon Advice

(Warning. This post may disturb the dream…..there are points that are often not talked about) There is something I hear folks say quite often.  They say ‘I have seen through the self-centre’ but they keep speaking about their suffering. They demonstrate quiet clearly a point of view of being a someone who has not seen through the self-center – and they feel the contradiction in themselves.   It is only a me that can suffer psychologically.  So, the story of seeing through of the self-center is either a contrived account or just a trick of self-deceit. It seems that so many […]

Shortest distance

What is the distance between the seeker and what the seeker seeks? ………………. To conceive of distance in any way, apart from being an abstraction, one needs reference points to measure from. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.  A line is one dimensional.  A plane is two dimensional.  A cube is three dimensional. If the path of a seeker, already traveled, could be perceived as a visible trace-line, in time, it would be seen to be something like an overflowing bowl of spaghetti.  If the seeker could travel a straight line, the seeker would have to […]

Who?

In the previous post, questions were posed.  One in particular should have struck a chord with you. Did any of the questions bring a pause in the thinking?   Did any of the questions have an edge to it?  Did you pass over the questions and onto the next line without blinking? So much of spiritual seeking, NO, all spiritual seeking, is nothing but an ignoring of what is most clear and obvious.  Being caught in a mind game of seeking is not going to free anyone. In the appearance of things, in the scheme of things, millions of so-called […]

The ‘seeker’ is a non entity

A life time of seeking and all the problems of identity dissolve in one instant of spontaneous openness to what is. If you ask the question ‘Who am I?’ and let the mind rest upon emptiness……the absence of an ‘answer’ is clear and obvious.  The questioner disappears and naked awareness is self-evident. The question ‘Who am I?’ is just a pointer.   The value of any pointer is only ever in the recognition of what the pointer is pointing to. You can only re-cognize something that has already been cognized.   In the case of  ‘Who am I?’ the apparent […]

No Awakening – only Being.

A photo of a galaxy taken from the Hubble Telescope.   Cosmic Consciousness displays itself in trillions of ways and appears as an infinite number of ever-moving shapes and forms.  Similarly, atoms appear to be based on the same principles. Macro and micro expressions are appearing in the same boundless space.  There is no static point anywhere to be found. Our true nature is self-aware.  Awareness is self-aware.   Subject and object are conceptual… and belong to ‘mind’… not to reality.  The spontaneous nature of what appears is seemingly hidden from view by what we call ‘time’.  Everything registers spontaneously, […]

Something missing?

Q: I keep thinking that there is something missing in me and that is why I don’t get the message clearly.  My conditioning seems to preclude access to the present clarity, which must be obvious, yet my mind clouds up the view.  I want to find my true nature and that is the most important thing for me now, more than ever before. G: Your true essence, which it seems that your mind is trying to find is the ever-present actuality of what you always ARE.  It is silent, word-less and real.  The definition of reality is that which never […]

Obsessions with ‘me’

Obsessions with ‘me’ block the natural open nature of consciousness due to mere belief.  Belief in NEVER the actuality, it is an illusion of mind.  In the actuality consciousness cannot be blocked by its own content.  So the blockage is an illusion that only needs to be recognized for what it is. The ‘story of me’ is always about the past (a dead image of self) or the past mixed with imagination about the future.  Fear is always about the future – what might or might not happen.  The story of me cannot withstand the actual immediacy of non-conceptual awareness. […]

Everything appears in the seeing

Everything appears in the seeing.  The see-er and the seen are appearances in the seeing.  What is seen is not separate from the seeing – yet in the ‘realm of belief’ we construct an artificial architecture with concepts and belief in those concepts. It is all Maya – the illusion.  Seemingly so seductive, Maya appears to resist being deconstructed.  The ‘dance of Shiva’ (The dynamic aspect, Shakti (movement), dances for Shiva (stillness), and thus appearing to create the world of phenomena) is an appearance in or upon the static aspect of awareness (Shiva) and that unchanging nature (Pure consciousness), just […]
