The beauty of this plain and simple truth is that no guru is necessary. It is only through direct observation and experience that the truth resonates. There is no need to explain to others. Once the realization is made we are free to go about our business.

Interesting post. Slavery is a good word for what happens when people get stuck with gurus claiming to 'have it'. And as you say, it's easy to forget that the guru is just as much a slave as the disciples. It's funny to think now about the spiritual organisation I used to be in. They used to give quotes like 'you are already self-realised...you just need to realise it' and then on the other hand kept talking about how essential meditation was, and the importance of sitting with the group everyday, and you were highly recommended to attend weekend retreats every couple of months. Eventually, without you knowing it, your whole social life is stuck with these people, and leaving becomes quite a challenge. Everyone became a slave and kept reading about freedom! All part of the extraordinary play. Thanks Gilbert.
