No one asking you to believe in anything here.

The prerequisite of most teachings is to believe in it. Slavery to concepts and belief can not bring freedom. Slavery in the name of freedom is slavery, any way you package it. Take a look at the popular guru – he is a slave to the devotees. He cannot move about freely without a hundred eyes watching his every move.

He may be speaking quite clearly about ‘freedom from slavery’ BUT the teaching does not work, because it is so obvious that he himself is a slave. It may appear to be a luxurious life style for him but I can assure you that some very dark moods ‘happen’ for that slave – because that is how it works.

There are many underground stories from devotees about the tyrannical outbursts of the guru. It is all excused, passed off as some sort of ‘sacred event’ or that the guru has taken ‘our sins’ on board and is just venting his spleen. Crap. The man is a slave and there are no two ways about it.

The truth is plain and simple. Too simple for the believer. The simple activity of knowing cuts through all beliefs without any trouble. It is the believed in ‘me’ that resists what is true. The me is busy maintaining a STORY.

Drop the story and SEE.

Interesting post. Slavery is a good word for what happens when people get stuck with gurus claiming to ‘have it’. And as you say, it’s easy to forget that the guru is just as much a slave as the disciples. It’s funny to think now about the spiritual organisation I used to be in. They used to give quotes like ‘you are already self-realised…you just need to realise it’ and then on the other hand kept talking about how essential meditation was, and the importance of sitting with the group everyday, and you were highly recommended to attend weekend retreats every couple of months. Eventually, without you knowing it, your whole social life is stuck with these people, and leaving becomes quite a challenge. Everyone became a slave and kept reading about freedom! All part of the extraordinary play. Thanks Gilbert.

The beauty of this plain and simple truth is that no guru is necessary. It is only through direct observation and experience that the truth resonates. There is no need to explain to others. Once the realization is made we are free to go about our business.
